BabyJake
Florida-bred singer/songwriter Jake Herring (aka BabyJake) is known for his soulful pop-rock style. He emerged to viral fame in 2018 with his song "Cigarettes on Patios" before releasing his debut album, The Sun Wakes Up Earlier Now. He has continued to develop his cross-pollinated vibe on records like Aren't We Ever Gonna Be More Than Friends? and Rude, Crude, And Uncouth.
Raised in Fort Myers, Herring first began playing guitar around age eight. By the time he was 14, he was performing his own songs, drawing inspiration from singer/songwriters like Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jackson Browne, and John Mayer, as well as his love of hip-hop and R&B. In 2016, while in college, he issued an EP, Little Mess, featuring the yearning title track ballad. Herring also collaborated with producer !KE on a remix of the song that caught on online, generating thousands of plays. However, finding himself unhappy with college and looking for more creative focus, he decided to take several years off to reevaluate his musical direction.
Herring eventually relocated to Los Angeles, where he adopted the stage name BabyJake and signed with Republic Records. In 2018, he released the single "Miami," which showcased a more R&B- and electronic-influenced side that he initially dubbed "urban pop." A second single, "Cigarettes on Patios," arrived in June 2019 and went viral on TikTok, picking up over 100 million views. Riding the buzz, he delivered his debut BabyJake EP, Don't Give Me Problems, Give Me Wine, in 2020.
A year later, he returned with his first full-length, The Sun Wakes Up Earlier Now, which found him shifting to a more '70s-influenced pop/rock sound. It featured a guest spot from Lizzie McAlpine.
Following his departure from Republic, Herring made another move, settling in Nashville. In 2023, he delivered two full-length albums with Aren't We Ever Gonna Be More Than Friends? and Rude, Crude, And Uncouth. In 2024, along with a collection of demo tracks, BabyJake released the sunny, piano-driven single "Bottom of a Dirty Shoe."
